According to Ayurveda the pains are caused by the aggravation of Vata (air) dosha. Arthritis is caused by the accumulation of Ama (toxic by-product of improper digestion) and aggravation of Vata. The Ama deposits at the sites which are weaker in the body. After deposition in the joints, there is an aggravation of Vata which results in Amavata or arthritis. Ayurvedic medicines can completely alleviate pain in people suffering from arthritis. An Ayurvedic doctor prescribes a good diet with herbal remedies and exercises.
